Sagwan Tanauan Dragon Boat was organized in 2013 after the success of the 1st Tanauan City Dragon Boat Race Festival. The team was initially composed of local youth with ages ranging from 12 to 18. The first batch of 24 trainees had their first taste of dragon boating in the Pasig River in Taytay, Rizal, on December 8 of that year.
The team’s first race was the FEATI University Race to Raise Dragon Boat Competition for the Pasig River on March, 2014. Though no prize was won, this experience emboldened the team to become more competitive. With rigorous training, Sagwan Tanauan made it to the finals at the Philippine National Games in May of the same year. Since then, three of its paddlers have been enlisted by the PCKF National Team, while the rest of the paddlers are training harder than ever to become one of PCKF’s most formidable teams.
Sagwan Tanauan is entirely managed and supported by volunteers from the private sector. Its advocacy remains to promote environmentally friendly water sports in Taal Lake, as well as a healthy and wholesome lifestyle for the youth of Tanauan City.
Sagwan Tanauan is exclusively for paddlers from Tanauan City and should be 23 years old and below. A paddler must have a parental consent and must sign a code of ethics.
